Director & Actuary I Preferred Location: Atlanta, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Mason, OH; Louisville, KY; St. Louis, MO; Waukesha/Pewaukee, WI; Richmond, VA; or Virginia Beach, VA Will consider other locations for most qualified applicant The Director & Actuary I is responsible for directing and providing leadership for actuarial projects within the Government Business Division, supporting Medicare and Medicaid Cost of Care (CofC). Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs and provides leadership in actuarial functions, with particular focus on the analysis of trends and cost of care initiatives, and actuarial modeling and analytics.
  • Influences the design and construction of a new Integrated Financial Tend Projection Model, which will improve upon and ultimately replace existing models.
  • Leads the development of normalization factors to explain the key drivers of medical cost trends, including unit cost and utilization components.
  • Supports trend forecasting and analytics for the Government Business Division, both at the enterprise level and for specific states as required.
  • Conducts and analyzes experience studies, and monitors the consistency of company practices and procedures.
  • Performs short and long-term financial forecasting and analysis.
  • Develops trend target metrics for the corporate business plan, and explains the variance between plan targets and actual claims experience.
  • Responsible for decisions determining priority of work assignments, appropriateness of actuarial and statistical analysis, and determining the actuarial soundness of work product.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
  • Guides staff in the preparation and interpretation of data and related analysis. Qualifications
    • Requires a BA/BS in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field; ASA/MAAA required; 7 years of related experience is also required. May participate in the Actuarial Program.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, required.
    • Medicaid or Medicare experience required.
    • Extensive healthcare actuarial experience with analysis of trends highly desired.
    • Experience with pricing of health plans desired.
    • Cost of care experience desired.
