Position Summary
The Operations Controller is a strategic member of the plant
leadership team and advisor to the Plant Manager and operations
team. The Operational Controller provides data, analysis, and
guidance to improve plant operational and financial performance.
The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, communication
and collaboration skills and will be able to work independently
with little or no supervision. This role requires individuals who
are well organized, flexible, and enjoy the challenges of
supporting manufacturing locations, either on site or remotely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Updates weekly / monthly / annual financial forecasts as
required; works with plant leadership to flex operating costs based
on revenue changes
- Establishes and maintains standard product costing including
material cost, labor rates, fixed and variable overhead rates;
analyzes, understands, and communicates variances; works with
extended team to recommend solutions and resolve variances
- Coordinates and leads annual budget cycle for location using
provided tools and templates; prepares files for consolidation and
completes year-over-year analysis and reporting
- Completes daily and month-end finance activities as needed;
provides files and data required for consolidation; prepares and
presents monthly reporting package
- Ensures the integrity of the plant balance sheet at all times;
completes or directs account reconciliations
- Leads, mentors, and supports plant accounting team and others
as needed
- Provides project-based support and ad-hoc reporting as required
by local and corporate leadership teams
- Ensures compliance with internal controls and corporate
policies/procedures in order to provide consistent financial
reporting and to protect company assets
- Provides support as needed for both internal and external
audit
- Completes all other tasks as assigned
Education and Job Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required in one
or more of the following disciplines: Finance, Accounting, or
Business
- 5+ years' experience a Financial leadership role, ideally in a
manufacturing setting
Decision Making Authority
- Manages, directs, and audits all functions of the Accounting
department.
- Understands scope of responsibility and is confident and
knowledgeable in making recommendations and/or decisions within
this scope.
- Appropriately escalates other decisions to manager or
leadership team members as needed.
Required Competencies, Skills, and Experience
- Strong knowledge and proven experience with product costing,
standard costs, and variance analysis
- Thorough and relevant knowledge of manufacturing operations,
ideally in the automotive industry
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable
presenting financial and operational data in individual and group
settings
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Good working knowledge of local and state tax requirements and
regulations
- Strong ERP knowledge and skills; proficient in Microsoft Office
applications
- Must be self-directed
Preferred Skills
- 5+ years' experience in an automotive manufacturing
environment
- Experience with PLEX ERP software
- Advanced MS Excel experience, including pivot tables
- Experience in MS Access databases
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Employee may be required to work unusual work hours, at times
with little advance notice.
- Travel should be minimal, however, travel to other
manufacturing plants may be required periodically.
- The position requires the ability to work in
non-climate-controlled plant areas and climate-controlled office
areas.
- While in manufacturing locations, employees may be exposed to
forklift traffic, moving production lines, and fumes; the noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Employees may be required to lift and/or move objects weighing
up to 25 lbs.
