Job Description:
The Senior Scientist/Engineer must be capable of managing
multiple, complex projects at a time; be recognized as a leader in
a specific field of expertise (e.g. Groundwater Monitoring,
Computer Modeling, Remedial Design, Vapor Intrusion, RCRA
Corrective Action); maintain at least one key client account, play
an important role in the development of other staff, develop new
work for the firm; show a consistent ability to limit the firm's
(and its client's) exposure to liabilities by following standard
operating procedures, established health & safety protocols, and
regulatory requirements; and consistently exercise discretion and
judgement. -The Senior Scientist/Engineer reports to the Owners and
Principal Scientists/Engineers. -However, the respectful
cooperation with all members of the staff is expected. -
-Management/Supervision
- Pro-actively manage, with little supervision, multiple projects
(including full responsibility for all aspects of project
documentation such as: field paperwork, filing, project budgets and
schedules, client contracts, purchase orders, quotes, and work
orders with subcontractors);
- Effectively delegate work to others within the firm to maintain
the firm's overall profitability;
- Effectively work with others to plan field work in advance of
project needs;
- Effectively work with QA/QC and Health & Safety personnel to
review/develop lab quotes and health and safety needs in advance of
project work; - -
- Effectively supervise staff in the completion of tasks,
projects, or general management;
- Efficiently manage the firm's resources;
- Maintain active role in field efforts;
- Maintain strong general organizational skills.Technical
Knowledge
- Maintain role as a recognized leader in a specific field of
expertise (e.g. Groundwater Monitoring, Computer Modeling, Remedial
Design, Vapor Intrusion, RCRA Corrective Action);
- Effectively manage complex projects involving a variety of
technical aspects (such as groundwater modeling, risk assessment,
ecological assessment, surface water and sediment assessment) and
regulatory issues; - -
- Fulfill role as lead technical discipline leader (e.g., lead
geologist or engineer) on major projects;
- Maintain advanced knowledge of regulations which underlie much
of work performed by the firm (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, SDWA, VAP) or in
field of work (e.g., National Electric Code, ASTM Standards);
- Understand the full capabilities of the firm;
- Assist in the development of junior staff;
- Provide peer review on smaller and routine level projects
within the firm;
- Provide critical review on the work of others and, in so doing,
significantly improve final work products;
- Strong technical skills and embrace the continual improvement
efforts of the firm; and
- Strong computer skills and effectively use email, word
processing, spreadsheet, project scheduling, and project management
software. -Problem Solving
- Develop a thorough understanding of the technical issues
associated with each project under your supervision;
- Assemble project teams necessary to complete project work;
- Routinely track project schedules and budgets to identify and
rectify potential problems;
- Effectively evaluate project data using a wide variety of
techniques such as mapping, statistics, trend analysis, aerial
photography review, record searches, and conceptual site
models;
- Consider and utilize,where beneficial, alternative methods,
organization and formats for problem solving and report writing;

- Evaluate project needs and effectively resolve issues and
delegate activities; and
- Effectively combine evaluation and interpretation techniques to
meet the needs of the project.Communications
- Prepare thorough draft and final reports, designs, proposals,
SOQs, and case histories with little to no oversight in a timely
manner;
- Prepare and give presentations to clients regarding projects,
proposals, or designs;
- Effectively organize and present project data;
- Strong writing and report organization skills; and
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Requirements
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution (or 15-years of
relevant experience);
- Eight to ten years of -relevant experience (Advanced degree
desirable and may count toward one year of experience); -
- Valid Drivers License;
- OSHA Hazardous Materials Worker Training (40-hr or 24-hr
training);
- Developed and proven expertise including additional training,
in a defined area such as groundwater modeling, bioremediation,
groundwater treatment, remedial design, USTs, field methods, and
data validation;
- Registration/certification (e.g., EIT, PE or as a geologist,
risk assessor, etc. at state or national level);
