Metallurgical Engineer, Central Ohio Reports To: Technical Manager Supervises: None ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position will be responsible for the development, management, and implementation of Quality Improvement projects. Additional responsibilities include focusing on improvements to the Quality System in accordance with Customer Requirements and Corporate Quality Criteria, and the support of Production functions. Essential functions include Monitor casting and homogenization practices to ensure conformance; provide training or update procedures as needed. Evaluate the quality of billets and ingots Writing quality work instructions, standard work practices, and standard procedures. Evaluate products and investigate quality concerns of customers. Conducting incoming inspection, in-process inspection and outgoing inspection Conducting process and quality audits Provide support in ISO/AS audits Perform various Quality Department functions that include but are not limited to: material disposition, resolving paperwork issues, resolving piece count discrepancies, supplier performance, performance capabilities, training, etc. Develop project scope, feasibility, cost estimates, and schedule. Prepare project approval authorizations. Develop specifications. Charter, lead, and facilitate cross-functional project teams. Support and manage installations, outages, and equipment start-ups. Track, report, and manage final project performance, schedule, and cost compliance. Assist in troubleshooting equipment and processes. Coordinate and support safety initiatives. Provide technical support during equipment outages. Manage project documentation. Evaluate reliability improvement options. Work with cross-functional teams to develop process and production improvements. Bachelors degree in Metallurgy or Material Science is required. EXPERIENCE Six (6) years minimum manufacturing and/or materials testing experience Experience in casting is highly preferred Possess problem solving (analytical) skills along with project management skills/experience Experience with Lean Management Systems/Six Sigma/Variation Reduction Effective project management skills Effective communication skills Safety conscious, highly self-motivated, and flexible Ability to work effectively with individuals in all key functions of the company Proactive approach to problem solving, rather than reactive Proven ability to work in a low supervision environment while successfully meeting goals. Previous experience managing projects in a manufacturing environment. Excellent analytical skills. Strong PC skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills. Proven ability to work in teams. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position interfaces with plant and area management, area and shops maintenance personnel, vendors, contractors, area engineering, and contract engineers. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships. WORK ENVIRONMENT Approximately 60% of the job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. 40% of the job function is required in the plant. There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment
