Job Description:

Director of Medical Education (DME) who is enthusiastic, up to date, and an a fully-engaged medical provider sought; must be licensed as a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, or equivalent degree.  This is a special role with high-visibility in a premier integrated health network. 
The Director of Medical Education (DME) administers the graduate and undergraduate education of the multi-hospital Health System. The DME is a primary liaison with administrative leaders, the medical staff, and affiliated training institutions on matters relating to graduate medical education within the organization. This person may be designated the DIO, who in collaboration with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), has authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of the ACGME-accredited programs and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the ACGME institutional and program requirements.

Summary of Responsibilities (A detailed job description is available for interested persons who qualify for the role):

  • Supervises all Residency Program Directors, and conducts periodic performance evaluations.
  • Assist in relationships between Program Directors, Hospital Department Directors and Hospital Administrators regarding medical education issues.
  • Serves as an active member of Medical Education Committees and Continuing Medical Education Committee.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Research & Scholarly Affairs, facilitates research and scholarly activity within the GME department.
  • Assure continued accreditation of all medical education programs by adhering ACGME
  • Actively participate in GME's Quality and Safety initiatives and oversee the GME plan to address deficiencies 
  • Identify national and regional trends and ensure that GME is meeting learner needs.
  • Identify best practices internally within programs and help adopt across all of GME.
  • Oversee process for Annual Program Evaluation and ensure that all programs meet the requirements.
  • Monitor the use of the GMEC Special Program Review Process.
  • Develop and maintain sustainable faculty models that is effective, stable, cost-effective, and future-focused.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving trends of medical education and continuing medical education, as well as specialty Board requirements.
  • Oversees the creation of and maintenance of affiliation agreements and relationships with associated medical schools/colleges.
  • Assists in residency recruitment activities.Works with Physician Recruiting, as appropriate, in retaining residents in attending physician roles after completion of the residency program.
  • Develops policies and procedures, and ensures compliance by residents with Resident Physician Handbook & Policy Manual, resident contracts, and due process.
  • Actively participate in professional development

    Key Skills, Abilities & Qualification Requirements: 

    • Minimum five years of leadership experience at the Program Director level or above in an ACGME-accredited residency training program
    • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, or equivalent degree enabling the unrestricted practice of medicine in the state of Ohio.
    • Record of scholarly activity sufficient for a clinical appointment in an academic medicine role.
    • Prior GME experience would be ideal.
    • Travel up to 40% of the time. Not a remote work arrangement.

      Compensation, Benefits & Relocation: 
      Salary appropriate to role with consideration to prior experience; performance bonus At Risk Compensation up to 10% of annual salary; signing-bonus negotiable; full-time contemporary benefits. Partial relocation assistance. 
      EOE, No Visa Sponsorship.
