The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

What You'll Do:

The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking candidates to fill our Public Health Consultant vacancies. These consultants will work within our Ohio Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program to provide case management services to parents and guardians of children with an elevated blood lead level. These positions will:

* provide technical assistance and follow-up services regarding blood lead screening/testing (e.g., education, anticipatory guidance related to lead exposure, and follow-up blood lead testing reminders) to parents and guardians of children with elevated blood lead levels
* provide consultation and guidance regarding medical case management to primary health care providers, local health departments, and other outside agencies
* monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of lead poisoning case management activities through data collection and analysis
* retrieve data from the Healthy Housing and Lead Poisoning Surveillance System

(HHLPSS) and coordinates follow up services for children statewide via electronic and written communication, testing follow-up, and case closure for families and primary medical providers
* assist in assessing and planning statewide education and training (e.g., coordinates, participates in and conducts trainings). Acts as a program expert and presents program activities and current research and protocols to local health officials, primary care providers, government officials, and the public
* assist in preparing or prepares funding applications (e.g., estimates funding needs for

personnel, travel, equipment and/or screening services; projects/summarizes objectives, activities, evaluation process, education, tracking and follow-up activities) and/or monitors and evaluates spending and assists in preparing or prepares budget estimates

Completion of graduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; 6 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; must be able to provide own transportation.

* Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; 18 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; must be able to provide own transportation.
* Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

* Graduate or advanced degree in health science, health, pre-medicine
* Coursework in communications or health education
* Experience working with health care providers, health departments, governmental officials, and the public
* Experience managing or overseeing grant funded program activities or deliverables
* Experience in preparing health promotion and education programs
* Experience using PC and various software (e.g., Microsoft Office [Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint] and Adobe Pro)
