The incumbent is a Student Trainee (Human Resources Assistant) (OA) in Office of Shared Services, Employment Services Division. This is a developmental position designed to develop and promote the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform at the journeyman level as a Human Resources Assistant (OA) Responsibilities The Pathways Internship Program combines a temporary opportunity to earn a competitive salary while learning about federal service. For additional information regarding the Pathways Program, please refer to the following website: As a Student Trainee (Human Resources Assistant) (OA), your major duties may include: Input data into the database of position information (e.g. HR Connect, PAWS) to ensure integrity of system data. Set up classification actions in PAWS and gather background information for positions to be classified by Specialists. Follow up to obtain missing or to clarify unclear information. Determine if modified position descriptions meet the criteria for minor changes or major changes. If minor changes, make pen and ink changes to position descriptions and obtain management signatures on the ALT OF8. Build positions in HR Connect ensuring all information is accurate and complete. Follow up by checking NFC to ensure that position information flowed correctly. If data did not flow correctly, investigate to find the problem and makes necessary corrections. Perform other duties as assigned. It is anticipated that there will be significant interest in the announcement. Eligibility Requirements: 1) You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment as follows: An individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (high school, college (4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate) in a qualifying and accredited educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. For more information on the education requirements go to 2) GPA: Every semester, candidates must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study or 18 semester hours. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. 3) Typing: This position requires a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. OR B. Experience: You may qualify with general experience. Experience must include one year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. To qualify for the grade 05 level, you must meet the following requirements: A. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completed 4 full years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. OR B. Experience: You may qualify with one year of specialized experience at the GS-04 level or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience for this position includes performing in a technical, clerical, or administrative support role for a business or organization. Examples could include duties such as: Utilizing computer systems and tools to prepare and update documents and reports; OR Greeting clients and responding to inquiries in person, via email, or on the telephone; OR Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines. OR C. You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. If qualifying with experience, the experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
