Are you a Friendly Web Designer?

Friendly Design Co seeks a full-time, mid-level Web and Interactive Designer to join our team. We're looking for a strategic designer who will conceptualize and design websites for mission-driven clients like World Central Kitchen, ADL, and the Griffith Observatory.

In this position, you'll be designing in a collaborative environment, working closely with developers and the rest of our design team. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about creating meaningful work.

Our ideal candidate seeks to expand their skills and try new tools, and pushes themselves to do so. They have a keen eye for details and a drive for staying organized; feel confident presenting and defending their ideas and decisions; appreciate new technology; know visual design and brand identity trends and best practices; understand usability and accessibility; and love typography.

Friendly's work primarily involves visual identity design and website design & development. We are collaborators, both internally and externally, who work with niche and not-for-profit clients who believe in doing good work for their audiences and respect our process and people. A successful candidate for this position should exhibit an interest in both the role and applying their work to improve our communities.

This position may be filled by a remote applicant in the United States. Due to Covid-19 our team remains fully remote, but our preference is for a candidate in the communities near one of our offices in Washington, DC or Omaha, NE who could join us as part of a hybrid in-person schedule in the future.

Requirements

Roles & Responsibilities

Our ideal candidate:

• Has a strong eye for design and is excited about bringing brands and organizations to life online in a visual, strategic, and engaging way
• Can confidently contribute across the life cycle of a web project (bidding new business, UX workshops and activities, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and working with developers) to create a successful finished product
• Collaborates with a close-knit team of designers, developers, and strategists; providing guidance to colleagues where needed
• Communicates directly with clients and vendors, often leading creative processes, presentations, and reviews
• Self-manages to complete tasks and meet deadlines on a variety of projects
  
  Experiences & Abilities
  
  • 3+ years designing websites, applications, or other interactive media
  • Ability to create interactive designs from detailed interfaces to rich visual experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with developers to build a final product
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, and/or Figma
  • Comfort with Wordpress, Squarespace, and modern content management systems
  • Experience with InVision and other prototyping and interactive design tools
  • General knowledge of HTML and CSS

    • Knowledge of UX processes and comfort with leading workshops, evaluating site content, building a sitemap, creating wireframes, etc.
    • Illustration or brand design experience skills
    • HTML and CSS proficiency
