Oversee the overall effectiveness of utility Aerial Assets consisting of owned and contracted unmanned aerial systems and contracted rotorcraft operations while implementing AEP safety protocols. Responsibilities include safety reporting, developing, implementing and administering AEP utility aerial operations personnel training and qualifications. Leads and directs the work of others. 


  1. Develop and implement an internal training program for AEP employees that includes annual training and recertification for UAV operations and compliance with all FAA requirements.

  2. Assess contract rotorcraft vendors for safety and contractual compliance.  

  3. Develop and monitor the deconfliction processes and activities for AEP owned and contracted aerial assets.

  4. Monitor AEP utility assets for compliance with AEP risk protocols.

  5. Develop, manage and lead a team of internal and external employees and contractors to achieve utility aerial asset management goals.

  6. Act as chair of the AEP UAS governance committee.

  7. Liaison with AEP business unit leaders to implement specific case uses and consistent risk standards across the enterprise.

  8. Develop, implement and monitor a risk management system with risk goals, metrics and reporting.

  9. Schedule, review and monitor third party audits for internal and contract aerial asset operations.

  10. Participate in industry benchmarking.

  11. Budget preparation.

  12. Pilot corporate aircraft.



Education: Bachelor’s degree in aviation, aviation technology, aerospace engineering, aeronautical science, training and development, instructional design, and/or education is preferred.

Experience: Minimum 10 years relevant work experience required. Relevant work experience would include aviation training, oversight or regulatory experience, development or oversight of aviation specific training programs. Designated Pilot Examiner experience preferred.

License/Certifications: Rotorcraft license, Airline Transport Pilot License, Remote Pilot Certificate and Certified Flight Instructor certificate required.

  2. Night, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
