What You'll Do:
- Assists in the selection, evaluation, and procurement of
ambient air monitoring equipment and ancillary equipment
(analyzers, chart recorders, data loggers, modems, etc.) used in
Ohio's air monitoring network. Evaluates and recommends changes in
the equipment and operating parameters to improve the quality of
data collected and procedures used in the collection of data.
- Assists in the receipt, assembly, and testing of monitors and
equipment to prepare for installation in the field. Performs field
installations and calibrations. Evaluates on-going performance of
monitors and related support equipment. Performs on-site and in-lab
repairs, maintenance, and calibrations on monitors and equipment
(e.g., lab and portable calibration and audit systems). Prepares
all paperwork and documentation of certifications and calibrations
and follows distribution procedures.
- Provides training, guidance and support to Ohio EPA district
offices and local air agencies in site selection, start-up and
operation of air monitoring equipment and ancillary equipment,
including scheduled and unscheduled system maintenance, when
necessary.
- Identifies, tracks, and maintains minimum inventory of
monitors, support equipment, and parts. Procures and maintains
dedicated traceable standards for certification, calibration gases
and other standards. Uses division established inventory tracking
mechanisms and follows all procedures for checking equipment in and
out of the inventory.
- Assists in performing field operation activities in the central
Ohio air monitoring network, including maintaining instruments and
sample collection.
- Develops and maintains SOPs for activities performed. Performs
other duties as required.

Qualifications
12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or
chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or
hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science
field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for
conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or
inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit
applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection,
annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery
projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or
industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting,
compiling & preparing various environmental assessments,
evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience
must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics,
biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban &
regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health
science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be
assigned.
