A community hospital in Ohio is planning to hire an additional nocturnist. The incoming physician will work a block schedule of 7 on and 7 off, promoting an excellent work-life balance. There are 2 nocturnists on at a time, 1 is on from 6 pm to 6 am, the other is on from 6.30 pm to 6 am. Both admissions and floor call are split 50-50. Residents rotate with the hospitalists, but this is not an academic position. Subspecialists are available to call at night, and in certain emergencies do come in if requested.
