Medicine - Chief Research Information Office
The Systems Architect serves a key role in the Department of
Research Information Technologys work to advance biomedical
research in the College of Medicine. Designs, documents, creates,
deploys, refines, and manages architecture for secure software
applications and research infrastructure solutions to advance
innovative health research in both on premise and cloud
environments. Partners with key internal and external stakeholders
to understand and document user needs and goals which in-turn
generates high-level systems requirements. Establishes, implements,
and documents technology interaction, migration, and deployment
strategies. Manages risk assessments and security testing of
software applications and research infrastructure solutions.
Creates partnerships and trusted working relationships across the
Medical Center.
Oversees complex internal and external deployments of research
software infrastructure. Evaluates and proposes technologies to
enhance the technical capability of Research IT with direction from
leadership. Researches, creates, documents, and refines technical
processes, best practices, and guidelines for application and
solution architecture. Researches, implements, and evangelizes
CI/CD and automated testing solutions.
Contributes to strategic projects by evaluating and researching new
and existing products, procedures and/or workflow needs associated
with software applications and research infrastructure solutions.
Responds to ever evolving software architecture needs and performs
long-term system road mapping and support.
Supports diverse and inclusive work environment consistent with
departmental, College, University and Health System mission and
values.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering,
Information Technology or a related field and/or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Required: 4+ years designing architecture for cloud native,
distributed platforms at scale using AWS or Azure, Docker and
Kubernetes, or similar technologies. Considerable experience with
operations of production services in Azure or AWS and container
technology including Kubernetes and Docker . 4+ years of
professional experience in infrastructure and application
administration and support, devops, systems architecture, or a
related field. Considerable software development experience with
languages like Java, .NET, Python, PHP, Node.js, etc. Deep
understanding of the software development and devops life cycles.
Experience working in a collaborative environment using Agile
methodologies. automated testing, and CI/CD practices. Experience
with systems automation tools such as Flux, Terraform, Helm,
Ansible, Packer, or Puppet. Experience with metrics collection and
observability tools such as Prometheus, Kibana, Elasticsearch, or
Splunk. Deep knowledge of software and application security.
Excellent interpersonal communication and written skills.
Desired: CISSP or related security certification, and experience
building systems under a regulatory regime such as FISMA, HIPAA,
SOX, or PCI. Experience with relational and non-relational
databases. Experience working in a research environment. Experience
working with health or healthcare data. Experience with VMWare
Horizon VDI.
